This is my attempt to try and write something serious, which is also extensive and inter-twining. Since I posted the 1st 3 or 4 chapters before, I thought I would get over with it again and post till Chapter 5 for now. Coincidentally, Chapter 5 was also added in quite recently to allow the pace of the novel to pick up nearer to the beginning.
My notes also indicated that I planned to do some more edits for Chapter 5, just like I always make edits now and then to my novel. The changes will also be reflected in this page too.
Overview of ZZGY
As obvious right from the start, the story happens in an army camp. The choice of the setting, as with the choice of the characters, were linked to my favourite HK TV Drama, War and Beauty. Upon watching the show, I decided to embark on a similar story, in a completely Singaporean style.
Parallels between the HK and SG versions include the settings, characters and the way certain events unfold.
Like the HK version, the story took place inside 4 forbidding walls, restricting the people inside from the outside world. While the dwellers of the ancient palace had to be confined in the palace at all times, unlike soldiers who could book out on weekends, they chose to enter (to a certain extent) that forbidding world, whereas the fate of all characters were decided on the moment they were born. Serving the nation was their duty and this is a story of how various people lived through it.
The protagonists of the HK drama had 4 major lead roles, in a mainly female-dominated environment. Similarly, the 4 main characters were modeled after the drama, with a few exceptions here and there (of cos, if they were an exact copy, nothing would be original!). A trivia was how I chose their names to suggest their leanings and how their fate turns out in the novel (oops! Did I reveal too much?)
